Liberation in Learning

When I learned that a participant in my coaching work, currently incarcerated, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree through Lincoln University of Missouri, it illuminated something in me. As they shared their experience, I realized that this isn’t just about academic achievement; it’s about reclaiming agency, purpose, and identity.

Lincoln University was founded in 1866 by Black Union Army veterans—many of whom were formerly enslaved. They used their pay to establish a space dedicated to educating freed Black Americans. Their vision was clear: education as a pathway to liberation.

Today, Lincoln University continues to honor that legacy by offering degree programs to people who are incarcerated. This initiative provides education; it also restores dignity, fosters resilience, and ignites transformation within prison walls.

As a Coach, I believe in the power of inner knowing and in each person's capacity to rise, survive, and thrive—regardless of circumstances. Walking alongside this participant on their journey has reaffirmed that belief. Every assignment completed and every concept embraced is a step toward self-empowerment and meaningful impact in the world.

This journey lifts up a powerful truth: transformation is possible anywhere.

Education, especially in this context, becomes an act of resistance, a declaration of worth, and a shining act of defiance and possibility.

What might expansion look like for you, exactly where you are?

In solidarity and purpose,

Dr. C
